Twenty-four people lost their lives this morning when an Urban Connect bus collided head-on with a commercial truck at the Lutumba tollgate on the Beitbridge-Masvingo highway.
Eyewitnesses reported that the Beitbridge-bound bus crashed into a Chirundu-bound truck carrying 34 tonnes of magnesium.
Beitbridge District Medical Officer, Dr. Lenos Samhere, confirmed the fatalities, stating that 17 people died at the scene, while seven others succumbed to severe head injuries after being admitted to the hospital.
More than 30 passengers have been hospitalized, with 12 in critical condition.
