A high-stakes trial is set to begin tomorrow, February 14, 2025, as former Agricultural and Rural Development Authority board chairperson Basil Nyabadza faces allegations of defrauding outspoken Zanu PF central committee member and war veteran Blessed Runesu "Bombshell" Geza of a staggering US$1,362,000.
According to prosecutor Anesu Chirenje, the alleged fraud occurred on October 29, 2020, when Geza purchased a 42.3504-hectare piece of land from Nyabadza for the aforementioned amount. Geza was granted sole authority to subdivide, develop, and sell the land, but things took a turn for the worse when Nyabadza allegedly misrepresented the existence of title deeds and failed to provide the necessary documentation.
Further investigations revealed that Nyabadza had sold the same land to Velda Estates, leaving Geza with a significant financial loss. The matter was reported to the police, and Nyabadza was subsequently arrested and charged with fraud.
Nyabadza, represented by attorney Tazorora Musarurwa, appeared before Harare magistrate Tilda Mazhande, and the trial commencement was deferred to tomorrow. This case has garnered significant attention, particularly given Geza's recent call for President Emmerson Mnangagwa to step down amidst allegations of economic mismanagement.
