Lawyers representing former Agricultural and Rural Development Authority (ARDA) board chairperson Basil Nyabadza have requested bank statements and supporting documents in a case where Nyabadza is accused of defrauding outspoken war veteran Blessed "Bombshell" Geza of over $1 million. Nyabadza's defense counsel, Advocate Tazorora Musarurwa, has applied for the State to provide a breakdown of the calculation of the amount, seeking evidence of payments made by Geza, including receipts or bank statements.
According to prosecutor Anesu Chirenje, Geza purchased a 42.3504-hectare piece of land from Nyabadza for $1,362,000 on October 29, 2020. However, Nyabadza allegedly misrepresented that the land had title deeds, failing to provide the document as promised. Furthermore, while Geza was obtaining subdivision permits, he discovered that Nyabadza had sold the same land to Velda Estates.
Musarurwa's demand for bank statements is a crucial step in the case, as it seeks to establish the financial transactions between Geza and Nyabadza. This move is reminiscent of the importance of bank statements in legal proceedings, as highlighted in legal expert Adam Jackson's article on (link unavailable)
The State is set to respond to the application on February 20.
