Prosper Taurai Vanhuvaone has appeared before the Bulawayo Regional Magistrates’ Court facing multiple fraud charges after allegedly impersonating a medical practitioner and swindling victims out of thousands of dollars.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, Vanhuvaone is accused of issuing fake prescriptions and administering injections while posing as a doctor between August and September 2024.
The accused reportedly took advantage of unsuspecting victims, exploiting their trust in healthcare professionals.
In a separate incident, in February 2023, Vanhuvaone allegedly collected US$1,600 from one of his victims, promising to secure a nurse training placement, a promise that never materialized.
Further investigations revealed that as far back as May 2013, Vanhuvaone had defrauded another victim of US$6 400 under the guise of processing a visa and air tickets to Australia.
The accused has pleaded guilty to two counts of fraud. The trial is set to continue for the remaining charges on March 28, 2025.
