A 30-year-old man has appeared in court after he was allegedly caught stealing TelOne drop wire and DP tail cables in Belvedere, Harare.

Kudzaishe Masawi appeared before Harare Magistrate Rufaro Pavanhu facing charges of unlawful possession of telecommunications infrastructure. He was remanded in custody.

The complainant in the matter is TelOne, represented by loss control officer Rodger Gwenjere.

According to the State, led by prosecutor Polite Chikiwa, on April 2 at around 9:30 AM, Masawi went to Number 18 Eastcourt Road in Belvedere and began cutting idle drop wires beside a TelOne pole using a stone.

Pedzisai Nota, a gardener at Number 13 Eastcourt Road, saw Masawi and alerted a neighbour. The two approached the suspect and recovered TelOne drop wire and DP tail cables concealed in a black plastic bag.

Masawi was allegedly apprehended and taken to ZRP Milton Park for further handling.

Gwenjere later positively identified the recovered items as TelOne property. The cables were weighed at the National Railways of Zimbabwe and found to weigh one kilogram.
