A Zimbabwean darts player based in South Africa recently won two awards on the Socialites Darts Club 60th Anniversary Tournament held in South Africa.

The event was hosted by the Fusion Lounge.

David Nyemba said though age may not be on his side, he is excited to have won the awards.

“My aim is to go abroad and play professionals, but age is a hindrance because I am 64,” said Nyemba.

He won singles and he was also named player of the tournament.

Nyemba, whose career has seen him touring the whole of Region 5, has been playing darts for more than 34 years.

Nyemba has won 106 National open and closed singles/doubles, Zone 6 Region 5 singles and doubles, International open singles and doubles in Botswana, Namibia Lesotho Swaziland South Africa and Seychelles.

Team event winners went to Pura Pura, which was represented by Angel Morgan, Carl Gabriel, Mercy Masande and Rajan Odovar.

Runners-up team was G. H Sports and the team comprised David Nyemba, George Harryparsad, Rajesh Ramnund and Roshan Sivramen.

The award for doubles went to Marc Kleinschmidt and Suresh Sunker and the doubles runner-up gong was scooped by Angel Morgan and Rajan Odovar.

Meanwhile, Nyemba urges the youth to strive to try and take darts as a profession because it is a sport.
