A senior official at the Consumer Protection Commission has been dragged before the courts on allegations of criminal abuse of office, after she allegedly authorised the payment of school fees benefits amounting to US$26 956 without proper procedure.

Natasha Kanguru, 31, who serves as the CPC’s Director of Corporate Services, appeared before magistrate Donald Ndirowei at the Harare Magistrate’s Courts charged with criminal abuse of duty as a public officer.

According to the State, the alleged offence took place between January 1, 2023 and December 31, 2024, at the CPC offices in Harare.

As a public official, Kanguru’s role includes advising the CPC board and management on legal matters, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and legal requirements.

Prosecutors allege that during this period, she unlawfully and unprocedurally authorised school fees benefits for CPC management, resulting in an undue expenditure of US$26,956.

She is expected to return to court on August 20, 2025.
