Reports that former Dynamos Football club sensation Bill Antonio was sold for a paltry 10 000 euros is alarming and disturbing, football fans have said.
This comes as the 20-year-old former DeMbare player was snapped up by Belgian Pro League side KV Mechelen after impressing the club’s coaching staff during trials.
This came on the back of outstanding performances for the Harare giants where he made 28 appearances and scored 11 goals since making his debut for the Harare giants, whom he joined from Prince Edward.
Speaking to Zim Now renowned football fan Blessing Chadanyika said that football should be taken as a business.
“It is disheartening that Bill Antonio was sold for peanuts, his handlers should have waited for a better deal, not this rubbish (sick),” Chadanyika told ZimNow.
His sentiments were also by prominent Glamour Boys fan Tinashe Chakadza.
“It is sad that football is being run like a tuckshop here in Zimbabwe, Bill was doing well at Dynamos. A lot of clubs were after him whoever influenced this decision should feel ashamed,” Chakadza said.
Former Sunday Mail Sports Editor Makomborero “Mako Gold” Mutimkulu said that the fee will get better if Antonio performed well for his new club.
“The 10 000 Euros debate misses a crucial factor. The fee gets better the more Bill gets better. How many times have you come across a story that says he was signed for an initial fee of x amount?
“The better you perform, the better the transfer fee gets.
“The trick with the first move to Europe is to get yourself through the door and let your football do the talking. Bill’s handlers must have had this in mind when they said 10 gida iri bho (10 000 is fine), said Mutimkulu.
Dynamos are yet to receive their share since the deal was done through Bills’ handlers, Prince Edward Academy.
