Government has capacited the Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority with US$34 million for the importation of electricity from regional producers.
“We have intervened in terms of emergency resources to support both ZETDC and ZPC to the tune of US$34 million to source power from outside. Unfortunately, that is the best we can do immediately and this is being processed over the next seven days,” Finance minister Mthuli Ncube told the national assembly last week.
Zimbabweans have been wondering why the severe power cuts were suddenly gone.
A number have posted jokes about alerting ZETDC that they have a fault since they have had uninterrupted power supply for more than 36 hours.
Others have speculated that most industries closed for the festive season and therefore there is enough for residential consumption.
