Ten Chinese nationals have appeared in court facing drug-related charges following their arrest in Newlands, Harare.
The group was brought before the Harare Magistrates’ Court today after police raided a property at 60 Knightsbridge Road, acting on a tip-off about all-night parties.
The accused were allegedly found sniffing cocaine using a golden playing card.
During the raid, police recovered cocaine, benzodiazepam, and methamphetamine, all valued at more than US$1,060.
The accused are Huang Zhen ,39), Yu Hefe ,35, Dong Yunmel ,27, Yang Wanwan ,29, Wu Yuejun ,46, Yang Qin , 29, Fang Yue ,36, Sun Jie , 36, Yao Wenming ,40, and Li Zhongju ,31.
The magistrate denied them bail, stressing that drug abuse fuels crime and destroys lives, and warning that the justice system will deal firmly with anyone caught peddling or using dangerous substances.
The case was remanded to a later date for further proceedings.
