Veteran gospel musician Agatha Murudzwa yesterday launched her latest album, The Sermon, at David Livingstone, in an event graced by fellow gospel artists, family, friends, and fans.
Murudzwa received strong support from some of Zimbabwe’s leading gospel voices, including Michael Mahendere, Trymore Bande, and Mai Patai, who joined her in celebrating the milestone.
Speaking at the launch, Michael Mahendere praised Murudzwa’s resilience and consistency in her music journey.
“She has been consistent in her music; she never gave up on her career. As musicians, we don’t do music for money—it’s passion. Of course, money comes along the way.
"She is a songwriter and composer. Congratulations, my sister, keep preaching through your music,” said Mahendere.
In an interview with Zim Now, Murudzwa encouraged women in the music industry to remain strong and focused despite challenges.
“The main aim of this album is to preach about the living God, to encourage everyone to stay strong and never give up in life. Whether in hard times or in good times, let us worship the Lord Almighty,” she said.
Murudzwa also opened up about the financial struggles she has faced as both an artist and a mother. She revealed that at times, instead of investing in studio work, she diverted funds to support her family.
“As a mother, sometimes instead of using the little money I have for studio work, I end up helping my husband with school fees or buying things for the house.
"To other women musicians, I say: even if you can’t afford a full album, release a single track just to remain active in the field,” she advised.
She further appealed to the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment to extend financial support to female artists, suggesting the introduction of sustainable projects that would allow them to grow both musically and economically.
Murudzwa expressed heartfelt gratitude to her sponsors, singling out the Nyaradzo Group, who supported her and sponsored the album launch. She also acknowledged those who had initially supported her but later withdrew.
“I had other sponsors who dropped along the way, but Nyaradzo Group stayed consistent. I truly thank them for their unwavering support,” she said.
With The Sermon, Agatha Murudzwa continues to strengthen her legacy as one of Zimbabwe’s most enduring gospel voices, using her music as a platform to inspire, uplift, and spread the message of faith.
