The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Zimbabwe on Friday hosted a colourful celebration at Celebration Centre in Harare, marking the 76th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 45th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Zimbabwe.
The high-profile event was graced by senior government officials including the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade and Minister of Defence, National Chairperson of ZANU-PF, Hon. Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri; Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Tsitsi Gezi; Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, Hon. Ziyambi Ziyambi; Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development, Hon. Frederick Shava; and the Minister of Transport, among others.
In her remarks, Hon. Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri commended the enduring friendship between Zimbabwe and China, emphasising the strategic partnership that has driven cooperation in key sectors including infrastructure, agriculture, education, and technology.
Quoting from the official program, she highlighted China’s support in the expansion of the NetOne Broadband Phase III project, the High-Performance Computing Centre Phase II positioning Zimbabwe as a regional leader in data science, and the rehabilitation of Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport.
She further welcomed the trade agreements facilitating the export of Zimbabwean citrus, avocados, and blueberries to China, noting that such initiatives would open more opportunities for farmers and boost national revenue.

“We are encouraged by China’s commitment to strengthening ties with Zimbabwe. The announcement of zero tariffs on African agricultural products by President Xi Jinping is a game-changer for our farmers and will enhance Zimbabwe’s integration into global markets,” said Muchinguri-Kashiri.
The celebration also showcased the rich cultural exchange between the two nations. A delegation from the China Arts troupe performed traditional dances, singing, and magic displays, while students from the University of Zimbabwe’s Confucius Club honoured the occasion with renditions of both the Zimbabwean and Chinese national anthems.
In his address, the Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe Zhou Ding reiterated China’s commitment to continue working closely with Zimbabwe.
He underlined that many Zimbabwean professionals across diverse sectors have benefitted from seminars, workshops, and exchanges in China, enhancing their expertise and contributing to Zimbabwe’s development agenda.
The ambassador further stressed China’s readiness to deepen collaboration in green energy, education, and agriculture, aligning with Zimbabwe’s Vision 2030 targets.
“We will continue to expand our cooperation, share knowledge, and ensure that our partnership contributes meaningfully to the prosperity of both nations,” he said.
The event not only reflected on the historical journey of China-Zimbabwe relations but also set the tone for renewed cooperation in the future.
