WORLD Boxing Council interim super-bantamweight female champion Kudakwashe “Take Money” Chiwandire has started preparing for the Gold belt bout to be played in 2023 year at a venue yet to be announced.
Take Money is scheduled to meet the Mexican Gold Belt holder, Yeimi Yamleth Mercado but date and venue are yet to be confirmed.
Speaking to Zimbabwe Now, Take Money said she has started preparations for the match.
“Mexico there we come … do not worry, we are still preparing,” she said.
Delta Force founder Clyde Musonda who is Take Money’s coach said they (champions and challengers) have not yet agreed.
“What they are offering is very small and the date is not friendly for us.
“They want the match to be in Mexico but I am not in agreement because of what they want to offer,” said Musonda.
The Zimbabwean boxer, whose standard has been rapidly rising, will now face the world’s number two boxer Mercado once their camps agree on critical issues relating to the WBC gold title.
Take Money recently retained her WBC Interim Super bantamweight title after beating another Mexican pugilist Zulina Munoz by a unanimous judge’s decision, a bout that was held courtesy of Zororo Phumulani.
Winning against Munoz lifted Take Money’s ratings to sixth out of 168.
In a letter dated December 9, 2022, WBC Women’s Championship chairperson Malte Muller-Muchaelis gave Chiwandire and Mercardo’s camps January 13, 2023 as the deadline for submission of signed contracts.
Take Money made history by becoming the first Zimbabwean to win a major WBC title, after defeating former champion Catherine Phiri of Zambia.
In a rare feat, Take Money is one of the few athletes to have had a go at soccer, karate and now boxing, reaching high levels with each although it is with boxing that her stock has risen of late.
