Zvishavane Man Sentenced to 18 Months for Armed Robbery

 

A 20-year-old man has been sentenced to 30 months imprisonment for armed robbery, with 12 months suspended on condition of good behavior and a further six months suspended on condition of restitution.

Tafadzwa Zhou appeared at the Zvishavane Magistrates' Court.

Zhou will serve 18 months behind bars after he and his accomplices, Richie and Tonderai, still at large, stormed Antony Mine Tuck Shop on August 14, 2025.

The trio, armed with knives and tasers, threatened and assaulted the cashier, stealing US$40 cash and two Monster gold detectors valued at US$1 540.

The court heard that during the robbery, the cashier was stabbed on the left arm and tased three times.

The police acted swiftly, tracing transactions linked to Zhou, which led to the recovery of the stolen gold detectors from a local buyer.

The court ordered Zhou to pay US$40 restitution to the complainant.
