
A gas tank explosion in Chinhoyi, Mashonaland West Province, has claimed the life of a three-year-old boy and left three others injured.
The tragic incident occurred in Kenzamba after a 45-year-old handyman reportedly tried to repair a liquefied petroleum gas tank close to an open fire.
The tank exploded moments after it was opened, causing severe burns to the man and three others nearby.

According to a statement by the Zimbabwe Republic Police, the suspect has been arrested and is facing charges of culpable homicide.
“The ZRP is investigating a case of culpable homicide which occurred in Kenzamba, Chinhoyi, on 07/10/25,” read the statement.
“A 45-year-old man allegedly attempted to fix a gas tank near an open fire, leading to an explosion that injured four people, including himself. Sadly, a three-year-old boy later died from his injuries while admitted at Parirenyatwa Hospital.”
Police have urged members of the public to exercise caution when handling gas tanks and to avoid using open flames near flammable substances.
