Zvishavane Man Jailed Two and a Half Years for Drug Possession

 

A 22-year-old man from Zvishavane, Tanaka Moyo, has been sentenced to two years and six months in prison after being convicted on two counts of unlawful possession of dangerous drugs.

The Zvishavane Magistrates’ Court heard that Moyo was arrested on September 24, 2025, during a routine police patrol in the mining town.

Officers conducted a stop-and-search operation, leading to the discovery of 16 sachets of methamphetamine weighing 0.01kg and six twists of dagga weighing 0.02kg.

He was charged under the Dangerous Drugs Act and convicted on both counts.

On the first count, involving methamphetamine, Moyo was sentenced to two years in prison. For the second count, relating to dagga possession, he received a one-year sentence, with six months suspended on condition of good behaviour.

Moyo will serve an effective custodial sentence of two years and six months.
