Shurugwi FC Earns Division One Promotion After Stellar Season

 

Shurugwi FC has secured promotion to the Central Region Soccer League Division One after an outstanding campaign in the Midlands Province Division 2A, finishing at the top of the table with 60 points.

The community-based club edged out second-placed Hwahwa FC, who ended the season with 55 points. Shurugwi FC played a total of 28 matches, winning 18, drawing 6, and losing only 4 — a remarkable record that sealed their well-deserved promotion.

The team’s consistent performance throughout the season has brought excitement and pride to the Shurugwi community, which has passionately supported the club.

Head coach Edward Phiri expressed his delight with the team’s success, highlighting the hard work and determination that carried them through the season.

“We are very happy to secure our position in the Division One League, and we are preparing ourselves to compete against strong teams like Sheasham,” said Phiri.

Despite the financial challenges that often affect community clubs, Shurugwi FC completed the season without missing a single fixture. The club is self-funded, with support from local sponsors and the wider community.

One of the club’s sponsors, who preferred to remain anonymous, praised the team’s progress and hinted at future ambitions.

“We’ll see about PSL promotion, but for now, we’re proud to have brought football back to Shurugwi. We look forward to facing more competitive teams,” the sponsor said.

As Shurugwi FC steps into Division One, the club is ready to test its strength against tougher opponents. Their promotion marks not only a sporting achievement but also the revival of football spirit within the Shurugwi community.
