Zimbabwean actress and production manager of a local action crime series Smoking Gun, Amanda Ranganawa, is set to launch another film Depth of Emotions on January 28, 2023 at Golden Peacock Hotel in Mutare.

Speaking to Zimbabwe Now, Ranganawa said the film is based on a true story and it talks about love.

“Depth of Emotions was inspired by a real-life story. I heard that a girl lost her womb due to fibroids and her boyfriend still went on to marry her. So, l took it upon myself to tell this love story in my own way with my own version of events.

“I felt l need to write about a strong male character who truly stands up for his woman when she loses something as precious as her womb,” she said.

She said she wanted to give women hope that strong men who know how to love and commit do exist as well as giving hope to ladies that barrenness is not the end of the world.

Depth of Emotions looks at issues of fibroids, love, barrenness, adoption, surrogacy and the African perspective towards marriage and children in a home. The movie questions the depth of love of two lovers and hence poses the same question to society: How deep does your love go?

The film stresses out another important thing, the issue of fibroids, which affect women from the ages of 16 upwards and they mostly occur in black women.

“If fibroids are severe, they can cause barrenness. Hence, l felt the need to bring to light this serious medical condition that affects women because most times in our culture we think kuroyiwa (being bewitched) and our religion we say it’s a spirit of barrenness. So, l thought l should address this medical condition and help other women in the process,” she added.

Ranganawa said people can expect a night of glitz and glamour as it is a night to shine as Mutare stamps its mark in the Zimbabwean film industry.

She said she had some financial problems when the film was being produced but she had a lot of support from Mutare business locations and families.

“For the film launch, we are expecting Mutare community members, families, businesspeople, politicians, organisations, and so forth,” she said.

The romantic film was shot and produced in Mutare. It stars Amanda, Simbarashe Chapola, Joseph Dereck Hakurimwi, Lynette Harahwa, Everjoyce Mahachi and Barbara Vhengedza and Precious Mzulu. The film was produced by Mclara Multimedia Productions, a film and media company that was launched by the Mutare film maker in 2017. The film production is also an association between Mclara Multimedia Productions, Tatenda Studios and Pikicha Afrika (Harare and Mutare film companies).

Ranganawa has written over 15 film scripts, 10 short films and five TV series.

She has plans that involves helping the film industry in Mutare city to continue growing and she aims be an International Actress, Producer and Writer.
