Police arrest 5 suspects for spate of armed robberies

The Zimbabwe Republic Police has arrested five suspects in connection with 14 armed robbery cases, which occurred between January 2021 and January 2, 2023 across the country. 

Courage Takunda Dumba, aka Toki, 35, Robson Mhandu, 28, Thulani Munetsi, 42, Tichaona Kariwa, 35, and Zondai Previous Ngarandi, 25, were arrested for armed robberies which occurred in Nyazura, Odzi, Bindura, Glendale, Marondera, Chegutu and Harare.

The suspects are linked to robberies where US$130 848 cash, 21 cellphones, various firearms, motor vehicles and other valuables were stolen at residential, mining and industrial premises.

“On January 4, 2023, detectives from CID Homicide, Harare received information that Kariwa and Dumba were linked to spate of robbery cases which occurred across the country and were staying at a hideout in Melfort, Goromonzi,” police said.

Detectives then acted on the information they had got, leading to Kariwa and Dumba’s arrest.

This led to the recovery of a Honda Fit vehicle, registration number AFM 4148 which had been stolen in Marondera on January 2, 0.22 Mark IV revolver, 0.22 Astra pitol 9mm Star pistol, 9mm Feg pistol, 9mm Retay pistol, 303 rifle with a magazine of 3 rounds, 3 duvets, 4 by 35 watts LED flood lights, 0.5 Horse Power booster pump and a leather jacket.

Meanwhile, the police are investigating a case of robbery in which a security guard was on Wednesday attacked at Mambo Shops, St Mary’s, Chitungwiza at around 0500 hours.

The suspects stole a Wembley Scott pistol with a magazine of two rounds and a pair of handcuffs.
