After murdering his wife and three children, a 43-year-old man from Ngavaseke Mugomba Village, Nyanga, took his own life by hanging himself.
Police say on an unknown date, Edward Chirombe attacked and killed his wife Joyce Mashenu, 40, two daughters aged 14 and eight and a 12-year old son.
The victims were found by the police on January 6, after they had received information that there were dead bodies lying in the hut and flat roomed bedroom which were both locked from the outside with padlocks.
In a statement, National Police Spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the law enforcement agents broke the padlocks to gain entry into the hut and bedroom where the bodies of the victims were found with multiple deep cuts on the head.
“The body of Mashenu was found lying on the bed covered with blood in the bedroom while the bodies of the children were found lying on the floor with multiple deep cuts on the head.
“The body of Chirombe was later found hanging from a tree in the garden which is about 800 metres from the homestead,” said Assnt Comm Nyathi.
Investigations are still in progress to ascertain the motive behind the callous murder.
The Police continues to urge the public not to resort to violence in resolving domestic disputes.
