The Adventist Lawyers Association (ALA) has condemned the violent acts shown in a video that has since gone viral on social media.

The motion picture shows a group of young people subjecting and administering violence to certain senior citizens in an area identified as Murehwa.

ALA said the society should accommodate different beliefs and political inclinations and realise that in diversity as Zimbabweans, there exists a shared patriotic history.

“We have noted and condemned the criminal act of violence and barbarism depicted in a video that has since gone viral on social media platforms.

“We are appalled, to begin with, by the senselessness of the charge and are even more horrifies by the indignity with which the violence was administered.

“As Zimbabwe prepares for the 2023 general elections, we call for restraint from all and for the creation of a just and democratic society in which plurality thrives.

“We affirm the Constitutional values of freedom of expression and association for whom many gallant sons and daughters of this great nation gave their sweat, toil, blood and lives and take the opportunity to restate that there is no place for violence in our society,” ALA said.

The association has called on politicians, community and church leaders to lead in ensuring a peaceful country that citizens deserve.

The victims have been identified as Baba Seremani, Mai Seremani, Beauty Chikoti, Chipo Mutizwa, Nyaradzai Chitauro, Sekuru Dongo and Mbuya Dongo.

Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said they have launched an investigation into the issue.

“The ZRP has taken note of a video which has gone viral on social media on alleged political violence in Murewa North. Investigations are now in progress. More details will be released in due course,” the police said in a statement.
