Police Officer Assaulted During Budiriro Kombi Standoff

 

Three Harare men are facing assault charges after allegedly attacking a police officer during a confrontation at Charehwa Shops in Budiriro.

The incident is said to have happened on January 6, 2026, involving Charles Jambo, 66, Joseph Jambo, 38, and Tinashe Muguruve, 21.

According to the State, Muguruve initially approached the officer and asked to speak to him before persistently following him around the area.

 The officer later boarded a commuter omnibus, but Muguruve allegedly ordered him to get off and forcibly took the vehicle’s keys from the driver.

It is alleged that Joseph then boarded the kombi and began punching the officer, leaving him bleeding. As the officer tried to calm the situation, Charles allegedly joined the assault and struck him on the jaw.

The trio is also accused of taking the officer’s wristwatch during the altercation.

Other police officers arrived at the scene shortly afterwards and arrested the suspects.

The three men were released on US$100 bail each and are expected to return to court on January 29, 2026.
