Mayor Mafume called for clarification, not arrested; Deputy Mayor Muronda and Mashayamombe detained over Land Fraud

 

The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission has confirmed the arrest of Harare City Council deputy Mayor Rosemary Muronda and former Zanu PF Harare South MP shadreck Mashayamombe

Contrary to widespread social media claims and earlier reports suggesting Harare City Council has been arrested together with Mashayamombe , the Commission has clarified that Mayor Mafume was only summoned to provide clarification on specific administrative matters and has not been arrested.

"The Mayor’s appearance at the Commission was part of an ongoing investigative process and is distinct from the criminal proceedings involving other high-ranking officials." Said an inside source at ZACC

In a statement confirming the actual arrests made today, ZACC noted:

"The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) confirms the arrest of City of Harare Deputy Mayor, Councillor Rosemary Muronda and former Harare South Member of Parliament, Shadreck Mashayamombe on allegations of fraud involving the fraudulent sale of Council land. The two are expected to appear in court soon"
