Elon Musk has revealed that Zimbabwe is one of the African countries on SpaceX’s Starlink satellite internet 2023 programme.
Starlink is a SpaceX project providing internet all over the globe and it works in the same way as Very-small-aperture terminal (VSAT).
Musk said the service will be available in Zimbabwe in 2023, with its neighbours Zambia and Mozambique getting it by the end of Q2 2023. However, South Africa’s date is still unknown.
The country is expected to have access within the first quarter.
SpaceX’s Starlink technology provides internet access to areas which do not have base stations through its constellation of laser satellites orbiting the earth at a lowly 550km.
The move could speed up and improve access to internet on the continent, especially rural areas where, Internet Service Providers have poured little resources.
Eswatini, Mozambique, Angola, Nigeria, Morocco, Zambia and Tanzania are some of the countries set to benefit from the initiative.

the programme will go a long way in alleviating the dire need for reliable connectivity as those that currently offer the service are way behind international standards
