An ex-convict from Chivhu, who had just been released from prison, did not want to enjoy his freedom that much after he was arrested for raping his 16-year-old daughter on 18 January this year.
Kennias Machirika, 42, who is popularly known as Marumanjanji, of D section in Chivhu was released two weeks ago after serving an eight-year sentence for armed robbery.
Mashonaland East Police spokesperson, Simon Chazovachiyi, confirmed the incident and appealed to members of the public not to trust anyone when it comes to matters of sexual abuse.
“We urge members of the public to quickly report rape cases so that the victim can immediately get assistance. We are also warning the public against trusting relatives irrespective of the degree of relationship. Anyone is a potential abuser,” said Chazovachiyi.
The facts of the matter are that on January 15, 2023, the girl was doing dishes in the kitchen when Machirika came from behind and slapped her buttocks and hugged her. She pushed him away and left the room.
On January 16, 2023 at around 10am, the girl was preparing breakfast when Machirika asked her to kiss him, but she refused. He then dragged her to a bed and raped her once after which he threatened to kill her if she ever disclosed the matter to anyone.
On the morning of 18 January, 2023, Machirika again dragged the girl to the bed and had raped her. After the act, he gave her a dollar, but she refused.
The girl sent a message to her sister who lives in Chivhu town, informing her of the sexual abuse. The sister then accompanied her to report the case at Chivhu Police Station, leading to Machirika’s arrest.
