The Zimbabwe Republic Police has urged parents to keep a close eye on their children following numerous reports of kidnappings and rape of minors.

The authorities have warned guardians against sending their children to meet relatives or strangers they are not familiar with.

This follows an arrest by the police in Bulawayo where two men were arrested for intoxicating and raping a 13-year-old girl.

Obvious Moyo, 38, and Amon Mpofu, 32 reportedly sexually assaulted the minor during the night between January 26 and 27.

“The suspects took advantage of a desperate juvenile, intoxicated her and took turns to rape the victim.

“The victim’s aunt had sent her to meet a relative who did not show up,” police said.

In another case, police are investigating the death of a Budiriro 4 Primary School ECD teacher Magdalene Mandiveyi.

Mandiveyi was found dead on January 27 in Aspindale Mountain, Mufakose.

The police found a black handbag, a black wallet containing the deceased’s national identity card, a Jet company receipt, two pens, two markers, a payslip in the deceased’s name, US$5 cash and ZWL$1 290 at the scene.

ZRP is appealing for anyone with information to assist in the investigation.
