Fresh from having struck a deal with boxing champion Charles Manyuchi in which he is now the franchisee of the World Alliance Boxing Association, the boxing regulator has gone further to cap him with Emeritus status, according to information coming from its headquarters in Moshi, Tanzania.

Manyuchi is the last holder of the WABA super-middleweight supreme title, a championship he won in 2021 after beating, on points, Muhammed Sebyala of Uganda in Masvingo. He is yet to defend the title despite the prescribed time frames to do so having lapsed.

In the new development, the WABA secretariat bestowed the Emeritus title on Manyuchi who is also expected to be marketing the association’s brand in Zimbabwe.

“Like Vitali Klitschko, who was the WBC World Champion Emeritus when he became the Mayor of Ukraine capital City of Kyiv, now Ambassador Charles Manyuchi of Zimbabwe who currently is the tripe world middleweight champion (WABA, WBF, WPBF) will become WABA Supreme World Champion "Emeritus".

According to Onesmo Ngowi, the WABA supremo, Manyuchi who runs the Charles Manyuchi Boxing Academy as well as the WABA Zimbabwe franchise, will devote himself to growing boxing in Zimbabwe and around the world.

“In consideration of his place in the growth of WABA and having become the first ever WABA Supreme World Middleweight Champion, the Board of Directors of WABA has also named the Supreme Middleweight Championship belt  after him.

“The soon-to-be-unveiled Zimbabwe belt will have Manyuchi’s pictures on its left side plate and the words "Charles Manyuchi Supreme World Middleweight Champion Emeritus" on the right side plate. WABA hopes to inspire boxers to work hard in their training and win titles to become the Charles Manyuchis of this world,” said WABA in a statement.

has been done and WABA is leading others in bringing boxing and tourism together.
