An unlicensed driver will rue his decision to steal a relative's Mercedes-Benz in Bindura before driving it to Bulawayo as a Bindura magistrate sentenced him to 10 years behind bars for the offence.
Alington Ambulance, 24, will however serve an effective seven years after three years were suspended on condition of good behaviour.
On January 11, prosecutor Victoria Choga told the court, Fatima Phiri visited her in-laws in Bindura where she met Ambulance. The latter asked for car keys so that he could place an axe in the boot for safekeeping.
After getting the keys and placing the axe in the boot, Ambulance git into the vehicle and drove off at high speed.
Ambulance was only arrested at the Bulawayo tollgate after driving from Bindura to Shangani.
