Zimbabwe emerged winners after beating Zambia 69-57 at the Zone 6 Women’s AfroBasket Qualifiers in Bulawayo.
The team started on a high note, finishing the first quarter with a 17-11 lead.
They finished with an 11-point lead (38-27) at the end of the second quarter and still led through to the third quarter with a 15-13 and increased their lead to 13 points (53-40).
Zambia led the third quarter with 17-16 but failed to keep up with the Zimbabwean team which scored 17 points from turnovers.
Sharon Chamwarura scored 21 points, claimed two rebounds and delivered 3 assists with her teammate Takudzwa Lopez Viki contributed 14 points to Zimbabwe’s victory, along with 3 rebounds and 3 assists.
Priscilla Chella led the floor for Zambia with 12 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists. Elizabeth Bwalya also made the headlines with 11 points, 1 rebound and 2 assists.
In another game, Mozambique shattered Angola 74-52.
Mozambique finished the day as top of Group A after winning 74-52.
Tamara Seda turned the tables against Angola despite Angola leading in the first quarter and heading into the second quarter with a four-point lead.
Angola’s Italee Lucas had already scored 9 points, while Mozambique’s Invigild Mucauro had netted 12 points for her side.
Angola failed to close the gap in the final quarter, leading to Mozambique’s victory.
