A woman who had approached the Harare Civil Court, seeking a garnishee order on her ex-husband’s salary to cover maintenance payments, told the court that her former husband was like a baby-making machine.
Talent Tambandimi took her former husband, who was only identified as Sibanda, to court.
Sibanda is employed as a prison officer.
The court heard that Sibanda had been defaulting payments and has been issued with several warrants of arrest.
Tambandimi accused Sibanda of always impregnating women.
“l don’t care that he has a loan, does it mean that my kids have to suffer because of him?
“When we came here, he threatened that my kids and l would suffer.
“He will only fend for his new family by taking loans.
“They are living a luxurious life and have another new baby, it’s like the two have a baby project because his wife is always pregnant.”
However, in his defence Sibanda said: “Due to a loan which l took, l am earning ZWL$40 000 and US$83 which is barely enough for me to pay maintenance of ZWL$60 000 plus US$30 and take care of my other family.
“Your Worship, if possible, l would like the garnishee to start in November after l have settled all my debts,” he said.
Magistrate Sharon Mashavira granted Tambandimi’s application.
