A school head roped in a Hopely woman’s friend to help a 12 year old school girl report rape.
This was after the girl’s mother ignored her daughter’s report of rape against a 52 year old neighbour and instead went off South Africa without taking any action.
The school head was informed by the girl’s grandmother that the minor was now in the habit of loitering around bars in Hopley Zone 5, Waterfalls.
The school head then had a talk with the minor who told him that she had been raped.
The alleged rapist, William Gari, 52, of Hopely Zone 5, Waterfalls appeared at the Harare Magistrates' Court
Circumstances of the matter as presented by the state are:
Gari and the complainant live in different houses.
The complainant was tasked by her mother to go to Gari's place of residence on a daily basis to wash his dishes.
In January 2023, the complainant went to Gari's house as usual and he was there.
When the complainant went into the house to collect dirty dishes Gari closed and locked the door with the complainant inside.
He tied her hands together using a leather belt and he removed his trousers and pant.
He held his manhood, shock it several times and it released white fluid.
Gari went on to remove the complainant's pant and he made her lie on the floor.
He tried to insert his manhood into complainant's private part, the complainant screamed shouting for help.
Gari then untied the complainant and unlocked the door.
The complainant ran away and met Ambuya Tafadzwa who asked her why she was crying.
She lied that she was running away from Nyau dancers and went home.
On the same day, around afternoon Gari told his son to call the complainant for her to have food.
She went and took the food and head back to her home.
Since it was her duty to wash the dishes, the complainant went on to perform her duty.
When she got to Gari's house to collect the dishes, Gari closed the door, put the complainant on the floor.
He put on a condom and forcibly had protected sexual intercourse with her.
After that the complainant went home and told her mother who took no action and left for South Africa.
Gari then saw the complainant with her friend and offered the girls $5 each for sex with both of them.
The girls ran away. The complainant told her friend that Gari had raped her.
The grandmother then went to talk to the school head about her concerns over reports of the girl being seen hanging out near a bar.
After his talk with the girl and hearing her rape allegations, the head took the minor to her mother's friend who accompanied her to the police to file a report.
Gari was advised to apply for bail at the High Court.
He will be back in court on May 17, pending investigations.
