Belarus and Zimbabwe have serious potential for joint projects in energy, transport, construction and agriculture.
This came out in a meeting between Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister Fredrick Shava and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Vladimir Makei on the side lines of the ongoing 77th Session of the UN General Assembly session in New York.
“Vladimir Makei and Zimbabwean Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister Musiiwa Makamure Shava pointed to serious potential for joint projects in energy, transport, construction and agriculture,” the press service of Belarus Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
The statement further says the diplomats discussed scheduled bilateral visits of official delegations and business missions, and set out to concretise plans for deepening relations.
“In this regard, the parties will carry out the necessary preparations, which includes ministerial consultations and establishment of direct contacts between the chambers of commerce and industry,” the statement said.
Minister Shava also invited Belarus to take part at Zimbabwe International Trade Fair in April 2023.
Belarus’ President Aleksandr Lukashenko- in his recent birthday felicitations to Zimbabwe’s President ED Mnangagwa ,expressed conviction that bilateral relations between the two countries will lead to mutual advantage.
“I am convinced that an open and trusting Belarusian-Zimbabwean dialogue will contribute to the expansion of mutually beneficial cooperation in various sectors, the effective implementation of new joint projects.”
Minister Vladimir Makei also held meetings with the foreign ministers of Venezuela and Serbia
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia Nikola Selaković whose country, like Zimbabwe is under sanctions, spoke Minister Vladimir Makei about the recent political developments in Serbia and in the Balkan region, as well as about the relations with the EU.
“The diplomats discussed the sanctions, including the ban on the overflight of EU airspace for Belarusian air carriers and the use of Belarus' airspace,” the statement said.
