Two women who are alleged to have been in possession of drugs worth ZWL$1 544 000 have appeared in court.
Norah Makwavarara, 39, and Vimbainashe Magurei, 40, both of Eastlea in Harare, appeared before magistrate Dennis Mangosi accused of possessing dangerous drugs.
The State, through Zororai Nkomo, alleges that around 1600 hours on May 6, 2023, police intelligence details from ZRP Harare Central tipped off about dealing of dangerous drugs in Waterhill Avenue Shamrock Court, Eastlea, Harare.
Armed with a warrant of search and seizure issued in terms of section 50(1) of the Criminal Procedure and Evidence Act Chapter 09:07, they approached Makwavarara, who was serving customers in a liquor outlet and they identified themselves advising her of their mission.
A search was conducted, leading to the recovery of 15 and half x 100mls Broncleer cough syrup, 25 x 100mls Benlyn cough syrup, 1x 100mls Salterpyn from a freezer in the bottle store.
Further searches led to the recovery of 47 sachets of methylene dioxymethamphetamine, 45 sachets of dagga and 41 J-Pipes stashed behind the freezer.
A field test on the seized drugs was carried out in the presence of the accused persons and tested positive to methamphetamine. The seized methylene dioxymethamphetamine and dagga was weighed in the presence of the two and recorded approximately 48 grammes and 70 grammes respectively.
The value of the drugs was ZWL$1 544 000.
Mangosi order the two to appear in court on May 9 for bail application.
