Man found with meths in disused car

A Montagu Flats man has appeared in court accused of stashing illegal drugs in his disused car.

Andrew Matyatya, 46, of Montagu Flats was before magistrate Dennis Mangosi at the Harare Magistrates' Court accused of unlawful possession of dangerous drugs.

The State, through prosecutor Zororai Nkomo, alleges that, on May 22, 2023, following a tipoff, detectives from CID Drugs and Narcotics went to Matyatya’s house,

A search on Matyatya's person led to the discovery and seizure of three sachets of suspected meths, one smoking pipe and seven empty sachets.

. Matyatya was then escorted to his disused Toyota Camry where one sachet of suspected meths was seized from the dashboard.

Matyatya was then escorted to CID Drugs and Narcotics Harare together with the seized where a field test on seized substance proved positive for meths

The meths recorded approximately 3.08 grammes with a street value of the ZWL$48 000.

Matyatya was remanded in custody.

Meanwhile, Beauty Kandemere, 37, of Tynwald was also before the court facing illegal drug possession charges.

The State, through prosecutor Zororai Nkomo, alleges that, on May 23, 2023 at around 0600 hours detectives from CID homicide Harare were informed that one Brian Goto, alias Bashman who was wanted at CID Homicide Harare for armed robbery case was staying at Kandemere's place of residence.

The detectives went to Kandemere's place of residence, and conducted searches recovering one transparent satchet containing whitish powder suspected to be cocaine and she was arrested.

Tests confirmed the substance as cocaine weighing 1.0440 gr with a street value of ZWL$180 000.

Kandemere was also remanded in custody.
