Police in Manicaland Province have arrested three people after they were found in possession of illegal drugs such as dagga, Benylin and Bron Cleer as well as sex-enhancing pills in separate incidents in Mutare as the police blitz on drug paddlers intensifies.

Samson Charamba, 31, of Greenside, Mutare was nabbed in Mutare Central Business District on Monday and was found with 18 sachets of dagga weighing 25 grammes.

Shadreck Chirodza, 39, was also arrested with three bottles of Bron Cleer, 80 grammes of dagga and 50 sex-enhancing pills, while Zivanai Mudhumo was nabbed with 2.4kg of dagga as well as sex-enhancing pills for both men and women.

Charamba and Chirodza were convicted when they appeared before Mutare magistrate, Prisca Manhibi yesterday for unlawful possession of illegal drugs and they will be back in court on Monday for sentencing.

Sharon Chibvongodze prosecuted.

“On May 22, a reaction team from ZRP Mounted Unit Manicaland was on patrol in Mutare Central Business District when they received information that Charamba was in possession of dagga at Meikles Park. They approached him and introduced themselves.

“They searched him and recovered 18 sachets of dagga from the pockets of his pair of his trousers. Charamba was arrested and escorted to Mutare Central Police Station for further management. The recovered dagga was weighed at Manica Pharmacy in Charamba’s presence and it weighed 25 grammes,” said Chibvongodze.

She said Chirodza was arrested at TM Chikanga.

Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Norbert Muzondo, said they arrested Mudhumo of Penhalonga for unlawfully possessing 2,4kg of mbanje.

“As police, we have embarked on an operation to raid drug peddlers’ havens and confiscate the drugs and substances. We arrested Chirodza in Chikanga, while Mudhumo was nabbed in Penhalonga. The operation is still ongoing and we are appealing to members of the public with tip-offs to furnish us with information for us to bust these drugs cartels and bases that sell guka and dagga. People can contact the Police Drugs and Narcotics section at Mutare CID,” said Inspector Muzondo.

“Our mandate is to ensure that there is reduction of supply of drugs. To achieve this, we are mandated to detect all drug peddlers and bring them to book. We are on high alert and we are appealing to members of the public to continue cooperating so that we flush the peddlers out of their hide-outs,” he added.
