Bosso, DeMbare in goalless draw

The concern ahead of the game was about where the goals were going to come from and, as largely expected, neither giant scored in this Battle of Zimbabwe showdown at Barbourfields Stadium in Bulawayo yesterday.

The second half, in particular, was an open and good battle.

It probably deserved a goal, which could have come in the second half, only for Washington Navaya to hit the crossbar from close range.

Highlanders’ winless run stretched to four games, with their only goal in that period coming from a penalty scored by goalkeeper Ariel Sibanda, in their 1-1 stalemate against Craneborne Bullets in Harare last weekend.

The draw took Bosso to the top of the league table with 18 points, while Dynamos remained in sixth place with 15 points.

Going into yesterday’ match, there were so many expectations and fans turned out in numbers for a match whose charges were hiked.

Bosso coach, Baltemar Brito surprisingly benched his trusted strikers Lynoth Chikuhwa and Stanley Ngala, starting with Calvin Chigonero and Elshamar Farasi.

Twice they hit the woodwork in both halves.

“I think a draw was a fair result even though we dominated the second half,” said DeMbare coach, Herbert Maruwa.

“It was an entertaining match.

“Both teams expressed themselves well, showing that they wanted victory. I’m sure fans really enjoyed some good football from both teams.

“Such football brings back fans to the stadium.”

His Bosso counterpart, Brito shared similar sentiments.

“They did well, the changes we made were not that we wanted different dynamics.

“It was a beautiful game, a tactical game and it was an open game and at the end of the day, as much as we wanted to win, I think we did well,” said Brito.
