One of the men who had their car impounded by the police after they were caught stealing tobacco and then went on to steal their car from the police station premises has appeared in court.
Nomatter Nox Manuwere, 31, of Manyame Park, Chitungwiza was before magistrate Standford Mambanje at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts charged with stealing a Honda Fit.
The State, through prosecutor Tawanda Nyandoro, alleges that, on April 6, 2023, at around 0200 hours along Drummond Road, Milton Park, Manuwere in the company of his accomplices, Fungai Yakobo, Tinevimbo Shumba, who are in custody at remand prison and another who is still at large, were caught by the police while stealing tobacco bales from trucks transporting them to the market.
Realising that they had been seen by the police, they escaped, leaving their Honda Fit vehicle there.
The car was subsequently impounded by ZRP Milton Park as exhibit.
On April 13, 2023, at around 0235 hours, the accused persons went to the police station where they used an unknown means to open and start the car and drove it away.
This was later realised and a report was filed.
On April 23, 2023, the police were informed on the whereabouts of the car which was with Shumba at that time.
They went and managed to intercept it, leading to the arrest of Shumba, while two of his accomplices escaped with the car.
Later in April, the police managed to arrest Manuwere, leading to the recovery of the car.
Munwere was order to appear in court on June 8, 2023.
