Masvingo magistrate, Rethakgetsi Silaigwana, has remanded Chief Fortune Charumbira’s messenger, a Fawcett Security guard and another man out of custody for allegedly destroying mining equipment worth US$16 622.
The trio of Chief Charumbira’s messengers, Ramion Mudavanhu, Thompson Tizanai, 57, and Noria Chimbiri, 43, from Mbudzi Village under Chief Charumbira, will be back in court on July 4, 2023.
The trio, the court heard, allegedly destroyed the property under the pretext that they had an eviction order for Francis Nyakurita’s Melon 1 Mine signed by Chief Charumbira.
Circumstances are that on March 7, 2023, the three allegedly went to the mine in Mbudzi Village under Chief Charumbira, where they threatened workers and destroyed solar cables and a 540-watt solar pump.
They then ordered employees at the mine to leave or be killed.
The three returned to the mine the following day and told the miners that they had been given an eviction order by Chief Charumbira before they destroyed a pulling wheel which caused oil leaks, a hammer mill, solar panels, and a room valued at US$16 622.
