A daring robber, who targeted and stripped eight Karoi residents of cash and other valuables in eight separate incidents in a single day, has been jailed for five years.
Tinotenda Zinyemba, 34, was convicted after a full trial on all eight counts of robbery, which were treated as one for sentencing.
Karoi magistrate, Moreblessing Makati slapped Zinyemba with 60 months’ imprisonment, before setting aside eight months for five years on condition of good behaviour.
A further 16 months were suspended on condition that Zinyemba restitutes complainants US$1 068.
That will leave Zinyemba to serve an effective 36 months behind bars.
Prosecutor Progress Maponde told court that on January 19, 2023 between Chikangwe and Claudia suburbs in Karoi, Zinyemba unleashed violence on Surence Machisa and stole US$14, two iTel cell phones, an SQ phone and some local currency.
On the same day, near Zimbabwe National Water Authority premises, Zinyemba waylaid Brian Phiri and forcibly stripped him of $5, a cell phone, satchel containing 20 x mobile phone chargers, 25 x 10 packets of cigarettes and an Econet bib.
In six other incidents within Karoi on January 19, Zinyemba used violence against complainants, Trymore Mahachi, Shelter Jonathan, Fredrick Marunga, Dorcas Kabasa, Tino Masunga and Denzel Nyamaka and robbed them of various USD amounts, cellphones and clothing among other things.
