Veteran coach Luke Masomere marked his return to the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League with a win after leading ZPC Kariba to a two-one victory over Yadah at Nyamhunga Stadium over the weekend.

The outspoken coach has been on sabbatical since 2019 when he was fired by Manica Diamonds, only to bounce back this year at lower league side Mutare City Rovers, where he had a brief stint before taking charge of ZPC Kariba.

Masomere weaved his magic in his first game in charge and led the Kariba-based outfit to their first win in four games after three consecutive defeats in which they conceded seven goals.

“We have to work together for this club to succeed, the technical team, the players, the executive as well as the fans we have for ZPC to be big,” said Masomere.

Affectionately known as ‘Vahombe,’ Masomere has experience on the big stage, having been in charge of Dynamos, CAPS United, Shabanie Mine, Masvingo United and How Mine after winning the 2003 league title with Amazulu.

Masomere’s first match in charge of ZPC Kariba was also the team’s first game back at Nyamhunga Stadium after playing their previous home games at the National Sports Stadium.

“We are very happy the team is playing at home because all the other matches were away, this will boost them,” said one of the fans who spoke to ZBC News.

“Now we can support the team because we couldn’t manage to travel to Harare every week but now they are close and you can see they are winning,” said another excited fan.

Another fan reiterated, “At Nyamhunga, we will deal with all the teams and make sure we fight for honours not fighting relegation.”

ZPC Kariba are currently13th on the PSL log with 14 points as the league slowly approaches the halfway stage.
