Multi award-winning musician, Jah Prayzah continues to showcase his artistic versatility after landing a role in the film Africanda, a collaborative act between creatives from Zimbabwe, Rwanda and Senegal.

The wordsmith is following in the footsteps of other music greats like the late Dr Oliver Mtukudzi who did not limit his art to music alone, but also featured in films such as Jit and Neria.

Jah Prayzah landed a role in the Afrofuturism film Africanda, which focuses on the preservation of African culture.

Shot in Zimbabwe, Rwanda and Senegal, the film directed by Steven Chikosi and produced by Tariro Washe and Rwanda’s Annette Uwizeye, Africanda is a multi-national collaborative series of seven films, which seeks to reclaim and restore Africa's identity in a bid to create a united, dignified, and proud Africa.

“I’m excited we have done a collaboration with Rwanda and Senegal in a film called Africanda. It’s exciting to see how African narratives are coming up through African creatives. We are being able to tell our own stories through film.

“This collaboration is a new thing, and our industries are still growing. We can continue working together and continue learning from each other. We will have the premiere in Harare, Kigali, and Dakar. It was amazing collaborating with Malaika, who is also a spoken word artiste. She is a very talented artist,” said Tariro Washe.

Rwandan thespian and musician Malaika Uwamahoro, who also did the soundtrack for the Africanda trailer, reckons the film is a brilliant piece of art which showcases amazing African talent.

“It’s amazing working with Zimbabwean and Senegalese creatives. Zimbabwean creatives are talented, and I have tapped a lot from their talent. I’m so excited about this project which has enabled us to tell our own story as Africans,” said Malaika.

Africanda features African creatives like David Murenzi, Malaika Uwamahoro, Kennedy Mazimpaka, Amelia Mbaye, Khadidiatou Bah, Tariro Washe, Tawanda Denga and Jah Prayzah.

The film is set for release soon and will be showcased across Africa.
