Drama as handcuffed man flees from police in Harare CBD

A handcuffed man who caused drama at Corner Charter and Mbuya Nehanda Street in the capital after he jumped onto a kombi and sped off has appeared at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts.

Clinton Gatakata, 23, residing in Hopley has appeared before magistrate Dennis Mangosi charged with resisting arrest.

The State, through prosecutor Zebediah Bofu, alleges that on July 19 around 0900 hours, Gatakata was touting for passengers and was arrested and handcuffed.

The handcuffed Gatakata then jumped onto a commuter omnibus, whose registration plates could not be captured, and sped off along Charter Road into Simon Mazorodze Road.

Police officers gave chase and Gatakata was later arrested at ZBC in Mbare while fleeing.

His bail was opposed, he was remanded in custody to Monday for bail application.
