ZRP St Mary’s in Chitungwiza is on the hunt for a male adult who stands accused of sexually abusing a minor boy in the area.
The allegations arise from the case of a 14-year old boy (name withheld) who after being infected with an STI revealed that he had been a victim of sexual abuse for a prolonged period of time.
Both victim and alleged perpetrator reside in the CA area of the high density suburb.
The boy’s aunt who is his guardian told Zim Now that she noted last Friday that the teen was limping but had not told her of any injury.
When she asked him, the boy’s friends who were present started to laugh making her even more uncomfortable.
“I became suspicious though some people attributed the whole thing to puberty,” the aunt said.
The following day, the boy found it difficult to get up and the aunt told a male neighbour who came to check on the boy.
The neighbour quizzed the boy until he confessed that he had been infected with an STI through gay sex with the alleged culprit.
The teen said that he was the one who penetrated the older man and had not been sodomised himself.
An RRB has been opened at St Mary’s Police Station.
The minor was assisted with a medical affidavit to seek medical attention at Chitungwiza Central Hospital this Monday morning, four days after the family found out about his ill-health.
The attending doctor confirmed that the boy does have an STI and that he has not been sodomised and advised that a scan is needed to ascertain the extent of any potential damage to the boy’s system from the infection.
A senior police officer told this publication that equipped with evidence from the hospital, the police can now effect an arrest and from the courts, request P242 forms that gives them time to carry out further investigations.
“However when we went to the alleged culprit’s residence we could not locate him. We even went to his mother’s place and he was not there,” the police officer said
During the visit to the area by Zim Now, the community CA area was discussing a demonstration at the home of the accused.
“We want to chase him from the neighbourhood and protect more children from potential abuse,” one of the residents said. He declined to be named.
“It was terrible exploitation of an innocent young boy. That man took advantage of the fact that boy comes from a poor family and deserves to be jailed for life so that he cannot harm other kids," another resident said.
The residents told this publication that the boy -who dropped out of school because the family could no longer afford to pay fees, was coerced into the relationship through the older man offering some inducements.
“Nyau cult is for those who are of Malawian descent. So since this boy was not, the man who is a Nyau dancer himself lured the teen with promises of initiating him."
“Sometimes he was given money, small amounts like 200 bond to buy mazepi (corn snacks).”
The alleged offender openly identifies as gay. A resident said that the community is not really concerned with the sexuality of anyone and is generally accepting of all identities but they have had concerns about the accused person because of his paedophile tendencies.
“He has been recruiting young boys into gay prostitution. He sells the kids to clients from posh places who come driving fancy cars with no reg plates,” the resident alleged.
The teen victim has also confirmed that other young men have been involved in gay sex with older men in return for some rewards.
