CCC activist Tinashe Chitsunge murder: Police arrest 2

Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the killing of a Citizens Coalition for Change activist, Tinashe Chitsunge, in Glen Norah, Harare yesterday.

In a statement on the Zimbabwe Republic Police official Twitter handle, national police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said: Reference is made to the ZRP press statement on the violence which occurred in Riverside area, Glen Norah near Tanaka Grounds, Harare on 03/08/23. The police have arrested two suspects as efforts to account for the remaining suspects continue.”

The murder has been condemned by several people already with Zanu PF spokesperson Farai Marapira saying Zanu PF condemned the killing, calling for those responsible to be brought to book.

CCC spokesperson, Fadzai Mahere said Chitsunge was among party supporters heading for a rally in a politically volatile area of Harare when they were “ambushed” by Zanu PF activists who “assaulted and stoned” them.

Government, through the Information, Publicity, and Broadcasting Services Ministry, has sent a condolence message to the bereaved family saying the it had been made aware of an incident that resulted in the loss of life.

"Our condolences go to the family of the deceased. Police are on the scene carrying out investigations and they will issue a statement giving more details to the nation.

"As Government, we call for calm and ride on His Excellency, President (Emmerson) Mnangagwa's message of peaceful campaigns, free contestation of ideas, and political tolerance," said the Ministry.
