Michael Mashiri

The director of Last King Private Limited has been arraigned before the courts after allegedly defrauding US$85 000.

Shingai Levison Muringi, 32, of Mabelreign, who leads a fuel supply company, appeared before the Harare Magistrates’ Courts facing fraud and money laundering charges.

The complainant in this matter is Rakbury Investments Private Limited, a commodity broking company, represented by its director, Thembinkosi Chigwogwana.

The State alleges that on July 19,  Rakbury was contacted by one Philip Nyamadzawo, a director of Northmann Capital Private Limited, who was looking for US$85 000 on behalf of Muringi for the purchase of diesel in return for an equivalent value that was to be deposited into Rakbury's FNB Bank account.

On July 21, Muringi transferred US$85 000 into Rakbury Investments' Zambia FNB Bank account.

Rakbury then gave US$85 000 to Nyamadzawo in three batches, US$25 000 on July 22, US$50 000 on July 24 and US$10 000 July 25.

Nyamadzawo acknowledged receipt of the money by signing and handed it over to Muringi, who also acknowledged having received the money.

On July 27, Rakbury WA contacted by Zambia FNB Bank telling them that the US$85 000 which had been deposited into their account had been reversed on Muringi's instructions.

Muringi allegedly went on to purchase a Toyota Hilux for US$70 000 from that money.

On August 3, Rakbury made a report to the police.

Muringi was arrested on August 4 and the Toyota Hilux was recovered.

As a result, Rakbury was prejudiced of US$85 000 and US$70 000 was recovered in form of the Toyota Hilux.

Muringi was ordered to appear in court tomorrow for bail application.
