Man defrauds US$48k in mobile toilets deal

A man who defrauded US$48 000 in a mobile toilets deal has appeared in court.

Takudzwa Martin Munyawarara, 38, of Milton Park, appeared before magistrate Dennis Mangosi at rhe Harare Magistrates’ Courts facing fraud and money laundering charges.

The complainant in this matter is Mandy Mvukwe, managing director of Garwe Restaurant.

The State, through prosecutor Zebediah Bofu, alleges that in May 2023, Mvukwe ventured into a business of renting out mobile toilets for hire at functions.

Mvukwe then engaged Munyawarara, who claimed to have easy access in importing the toilets from China.

Munyawarara told Mvukwe that he would supply the mobile toilets at US$300 each.

Mvukwe wanted to import 160 toilets which cost a total of US$48 000, including duty and transport.

On June 25, 2023, Munyawarara was given US$48 000 in one Prisca Chatyoka’s presence.

Munyawarara promised to deliver the toilets by the end of July 2023.

Mvukwe made a follow-up at the end of July 2023 but Munyawarara came up with a barrage of excuses before he disappeared and became evasive, prompting Mvukwe to make a police report.

Munyawarara allegedly used the money to pay his outstanding rentals in Highlands, his loans, school fees for his children and medical bills.

As a result Mvukwe suffered lost US$48 000 to Munyawarara

He will appear in court on August 29 for his routine remand.
