Dr Tsitsi Choruma Appointed New PSC Secretary

The Public Service Commission (PSC) has welcomed the appointment of Dr Tsitsi Choruma as its new Secretary following the retirement of Ambassador Jonathan Wutaunashe on September 19, having been at the helm of the organisation since 2018.

Before the appointment, Dr Choruma was in 2018 appointed the PSC Commissioner overseeing issues related to programming, development, policy and human capital development and management.

Dr Choruma is a specialist in human resources management and development, as well as entrepreneurship and business development.

She has more than 18 years of experience in public service in Zimbabwe and in organizational development coupled with education and gender equality at a global scale.

She holds a Master’s degree in Management from the Academy of Social Sciences in Sofia, Bulgaria, a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Zimbabwe and a PhD in Education Leadership from Seattle University in the United States of America.

She is also an advisory board member of the Graca Machel Foundation’s Zimbabwean Chapter.

In 2007 she published a book on the plight of people living with disabilities titled The Forgotten Tribe.

The new Secretary has worked as Gender Senior Adviser at Fairtrade International and Chief Operating Officer of Fairtrade International Africa based in Nairobi, Kenya.

 Her predecessor, Ambassador Wutawunashe joined public after having served in various capacities which included diplomacy. He represented the country in Europe, Asia and North-America.

In a farewell letter, the PSC noted that Ambassador Wutawunashe contributed to significant changes in the PSC including the establishment of the PSC Academy, launching of the sexual harassment policy and the amendment of the State Service Pensions Bill. He also steered the alignment of the public service amendment bill, now nearing completion, to the constitution.
