Police in Harare are investigating a brazen carjacking that occurred on December 11, involving a vehicle owned by Mashonaland West senator and former cabinet minister Prisca Mupfumira.
The incident happened around 7:00 AM in Avondale West, where Mupfumira’s driver, Edmore Mashasha, had gone to collect church uniforms from a tailor on Ascot Road. While waiting outside the gate, two men armed with pistols approached and threatened Mashasha.
The assailants forced Mashasha out of the royal blue Isuzu double cab (registration AGA 6969), valued at US$70 000. They blindfolded him, tied his hands, and forced him into the back seat before driving off.
Mashasha was later abandoned along Mutoko Road, where he managed to free himself. He flagged down a passerby, borrowed a phone, and alerted Mupfumira.
The Isuzu remains unaccounted for, and the CID Vehicle Theft Squad has launched a manhunt for the suspects. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
This incident has drawn attention to increasing security concerns in Harare, particularly involving high-value vehicles targeted by criminals.
