Police name victims who died in Mashava plane crash

The Zimbabwe Republic Police has released names of the victims who were killed in a plane crash which occurred on Friday morning in the Zvamahande area in Mashava, Masvingo Province.

In a statement, national police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said five victims were positively identified by their next of kin.

“Harpla Singh Randhawa, 60, of Murowa Diamonds, Mberengwa, Amer Singh Randhawa, who was son to Harpla Singh Randhawa, George Sibanda, 51, of Murowa Diamonds, Mberengwa, Nikhil Mahadik Milindi of Murowa Diamonds, Mberengwa and Reginald Muchemwa, 38, who was the pilot.”

Ass Comm Nyathi added that police are working with relevant institutions to establish the cause of the accident as well as identify the sixth victim, who is believed to have come to Zimbabwe as a visitor.

Meanwhile, police also named four of the victims who died after 39 mine workers were trapped in a mine shaft on Friday at Bayhorse Mine in Chakari, Chegutu District, Mashonaland West Province.

They are: “Forbes Murombedzi, 24, of Village 11, Musengezi, Zvimba; Tawanda Gavaza, 28, of Village 11, Musengezi Resettlement, Chegutu; Godfree Baro, 27, of Mariyapera Compound, Durawall, Chegutu and Lloyd Mashavave, 40, of Waverly, Kadoma.”

The bodies of the victims were taken to Chegutu General Hospital for post mortem. Nine mine workers who were rescued are admitted at Kadoma General Hospital.
