A Lupane man who recently skipped the country after allegedly murdering his elderly parents has been arrested in Botswana with the help of Zimbabweans who saw his images accompanied by appeals for his whereabouts circulating on social media.
Clever Ngwenya, 35, allegedly fatally stabbed his mother Mildress Ngwenya, 71, and father Simon Shoemaker Ngwenya, 73, with a kitchen knife some two weeks ago before fleeing the country.
The motive behind the shock incident is still not yet known.
Police said they have successfully repatriated Ngwenya to face the crime at home.
“Reference is made to the Gwaluba Village, Mabhikwa murder cases as reported on the ZRP Twitter account on 23 September 2023.
“The ZRP reports that Clever Ngwenya, 35, was arrested in Botswana on 25 September 2023 following the distribution of the suspect’s pictures to neighbouring police stations including those in Botswana.
“The suspect’s repatriation process has since been completed and the suspect was taken to Lupane for the due process of the law to take its course,” reads a message on the ZRP’s X account.
When he ran amok, Clever forced his siblings to seek refuge at the police station for fear of being attacked by him.
